I picked up a copy of Born This Way today. My first impression of her work is always a lot worse than what it will be a week from then, but I REALLY could have done without everything after the first 8 tracks. The brilliance of Americano and Scheiße almost completely make up for that, though.

I'm still waiting for my copy from Amazon (and will be until June, it appears). My impression from what I've heard of BTW album so far:

LOVE
Born This Way
Judas
Americano
The Edge of Glory
Marry the Night
Bloody Mary
Electric Chapel

LIKE
Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)
You & I
Government Hooker
The Queen

MEH
Hair
Scheiße
Black Jesus + Amen Fashion
Bad Kids
Fashion of His Love
Heavy Metal Lover

Think I need to hear the album in all its glory before I comment further ... other than I think Lady GaGa ripped off Martina's look (ala Born This Way & Fixin' to Thrill, beige bodysuit with tape)

I didn't think it was possible for anyone to dislike Scheiße. It's definitely the best song on the album, in my opinion, and for now, I think it's her best work ever.

Also, the bonus tracks have grown on me quite a bit, particularly Fashion Of His Love. It sounds like an old Kylie record. I love it!

Actually, my take on Scheiße is that I have to be in a clubbing/trance mode to enjoy it. The German bit is def. my favorite.

I think to fully appreciate it, I'm going to have to have the album on repeat ... trying to track down the "real" songs on YouTube has been frustrating with all the copyright take downs.

You could have just downloaded the whole thing for a dollar yesterday from Amazon :P

But yeah, I agree. As usual, I had to listen to the album over and over again until I grew to like most of the songs on it. I still think Bad Kids and Highway Unicorn are pretty bad.

I preordered the album & have to sit here & wait (damn free shipping!)

I'm cheap, and don't wanna spend more $$ on a downlaod (even though $1 is quite the bargain! If I'd only known!) I suppose I could use GoMusicNow or Muzic Matters, but I'm trying to be a "good boy" for now.

I just took another listen to Highway Unicorn and am sorta "Meh-ing" about it now.

My CD came this week, and am loving it (esp. "Americano" which reminds me of Grace Jones's version of "Amado Mio"). It's quite different being able to listen to music in the car. Here's my rankings of the songs:

1. "Americano"
2. "Judas"
3. "Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)"
4. "Bloody Mary"
5. "Born This Way"
6. “Marry the Night”
7. "The Edge of Glory”
8. "Scheiße"
9. "Electric Chapel"
10. "Hair"
11. "The Queen"
12. "Government Hooker"
13. "Heavy Metal Lover"
14. "Fashion of His Love"
15. "Yoü and I"
16. "Black Jesus † Amen Fashion"
17. "Bad Kids"

I'm late on this discussion.

Most people that know me know that I'm a huge GaGa fan. I've seen her a few times on her last tour and anxiously wait for her upcoming tour announcement. I also very much enjoy the new album with obviously a few songs being favourites: Scheisse, Hair, You And I and The Edge of Glory. I'm also partial to Americano, The Queen (love the tempo change), Electric Chapel and Bloody Mary, and the other two bonus tracks with a much more similar melody to Express Yourself than Born This Way had as far as I'm concerned (Fashion Of His Love and Black Jesus + Amen Fashion) have grown on me considerably though I still consider them as being near the bottom.

I'm constantly annoyed at the ripping off accusations that she faces though. I realize it's a stretch for someone to defend her saying that it's all inspired by or whatever but I feel like because she faced a few situations of "ripping off" Madonna that people purposely look for things that she's doing that other people have done before. But you can really apply that logic with anyone if you get thousands of people on twitter that have their eyes pealed looking for ways that any random singer is like someone from the past. The same people that say GaGa is ripping off Madonna are praising Adele (who I also love, BTW) yet Adele is essentially the new Amy Winehouse (who I ALSO love, rest in peace :( ) but despite the comparisons and "inspired by" comments, no one ever uses the phrase "ripping off" as it applies to Adele but there are constant accusations that GaGa is "ripping off".

I think GaGa's contribution to both music and pop culture over the last few years vastly outweighs anyone else's since she's arrived on the scene. I like that she's become a spectacle. She's about the music, visuals, messages, fashion. And she lives the rock 'n roll lifestyle that seems to have been absent from music for a few decades. I think it's more apt to compare her to glam rockers like Bowie rather than to other pop singers like Katy Perry.

I would love LOVE LOVE to see Dragonette have an opening spot for Lady GaGa's next tour and I've said that for the last year or so. I think they could be suited for it. Martina has her own style and I think, despite the differences in their music, they are still similar enough and both have that edge to them.
